November

Wow....It is November......Where did summer and fall go. We have had a great time this year. But now it is time to take some down time and get things finished so we can head to Arizona in January.

Got the new phone and module for the Internet in the motor home. Now to learn how to use the phone. We have always just had a simple cell phone. OK I need to learn more about technology. It has been fun playing with the new phone and having my kids and grand kids teach what to do and what not to do.

On November 12, our son had back surgery and that was another reason to stay home in November. Happy to report everything went really well.

Then my DH decided it was time to buy a new Polaris Razor. We have had ours for about 2 years. We have really enjoyed and it has been a great machine. Just wanted something newer.

New machine

My dh has been busy transferring things from the old razor to the new one, like the roof, bags, seat (we had them custom made for the old machine), front grill, totes in the back, and a few other things. Now the old one is up for sale.

It was our daughter and her family's year to go to her in-laws for Thanksgiving. We switch every year, one year with us and the next with her in-laws. So it was just our son and his wife.  Our daughter-in-law is from Mexico and has never celebrated Thanksgiving so this would be her first. We did not have the traditional turkey dinner, instead it was Sarmas. Sarmas are a stuffed cabbage roll. Everyone really enjoyed the meal and it was fun to spend time with them. Next is the traditional turkey dinner. with the whole family.

Wow November has come and gone. December is knocking at the door and here comes Christmas. I was able to get all of my Christmas shopping done during the Thanksgiving weekend. Now to sit back and enjoy December and look forward to heading south in January for the winter.

NHRA races in Las Vegas

Oct 24, 2013

The new power steering kit arrived about 4 days after we got home. Now to take the old one out and put the in one in. But don't have time right now, as we are getting ready to head to Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Our son and his wife met us at our house, as it was on their way back from Montana. The motor home was loaded and ready to go. The weather was perfect and we were off. We will meet up with my brother-in-law and his wife and travel together to LVMS.

The drive is long but it was a nice drive. NO WIND! Yeah. Usually when we go down for these races, we are fighting a head or side wind on the way down and on the way back. But not this year.

We will travel as far as Mesquite and then will head on to Las Vegas tomorrow.

Friday morning we are all up early and ready to get out of Mesquite and hit the track.

Arrive  at the EL Monte RV park, which is right next to the track. Set up camp, fix breakfast and we are off to the pits.

My daughter-in-law has never been to an event like this and we are all excited to watch her reaction. If you have ever been to this kind of event you know that in the pits their are working on and tuning the cars. They always have to test them out by running the engine and some of the drivers will pop the engine.  This always makes people jump, especially the first timers. And the overpowering smell of nitro is strong in the air.  It was great, yes she jumped and everyone around laughed and thought it was great. We all like to see the first timers.

The races were good this year. The weather perfect. Mid 80;s everyday.

Not only will you see a lot of fast cars, but you also find this in the stands

Now it was not Halloween.  We have been there for Halloween and that is a lot of fun.

Some of the Top Fuel cars

Just some of the top fuel cars. It is neat that some of the drivers change the colors on their cars to pink in support of breast cancer month.

Some of the Funny Cars

A few of the Pro Stock cars.

A few of the motorcycles....They are going close to 200 mile per hour........

We always have a great time at the races. We have had the same seats for the past 13 years and have gotten to know most the people around us as they too have been coming for 10 or more years. It is always great see everyone and catch up from last year. But this year was especially fun. Having our son and his wife with us make the trip even more special.

Heading home

Oct 16 , 2013

It is cold. Sunny but cold.  Jason from Super ATV calls and tells us they are sending us a new power steering kit for the razor. We had bought one of the first ones made and there have been a few problems. Even though we have had it for two years and the warranty is up they are going to replace it for free. Again, what a great company!

We decided it is time to head for home. Still need to get a few things finished up so that we can just go when we want and in a week we are heading to Las Vegas Motor Speedway to watch the NHRA races. Our son and his wife are going to join us and we told them they could ride down with us. So home here we come.

Nine day out, playing with good friends in a great place.  Cannot ask for anything better.  Cannot wait until we can do it again.

Six hours later we are home. Now to start getting ready for the next trip.

Waiting for the UPS driver

Oct 15, 2013

What a pretty morning.  Waiting for the UPS driver. The park owner said he usually comes around 3 pm.  Going to be a long day waiting for that part.

We decided to head to town. I like Moab. It is a fun little place and lots of shops.  Do a little window shopping and head back. It is pretty today, but cold.

A little after 3pm the part arrives. DH is excited and hopes this will fix the problem.  Out he goes with the part and my fingers are crossed.  The part they sent is not the right one. So a quick phone call to Super ATV and hope they are still open. We were able to contact Jason, the person at Super ATV and tell him the problem.  He states he will look into it and get back with us.  But it is after 3pm here and after 5pm where Super ATV is located. So we will wait until morning to hear back from them.

I really don't mind being down right now as 6 days of hard riding deserves a couple of days of rest.

Dinner and good movie are on the agenda for tonight.

Moving to OK RV park

Oct. 14, 2013

It has been a great 7 days so far. Six days for some great riding.  Wow, I am worn out. But I am so glad we have seen as much as we have. The Moab area is so amazing and beautiful.

Today we will be moving to OK RV Park in Moab. Need to dump and get water and see about getting the power steering on the Razor fixed.

Say good bye to all of our friends and head out. We only have about a 15 minute drive.

We arrive at the OK RV Park and settle in. DH calls Super ATV where he purchased the power steering and tells them the problem we are having.  Now it has been 2 years since we bought the kit and they are going to send us the part they think we need for FREE. I do have to pay shipping because we want it sent overnight. But still FREE for the part. I must say Super ATV is a great company to work with. I would highly recommend them to everyone.

The rest of the day we just hang out and relax. The weather is cold, but good.

Just a nice relaxing for the day.

Moab - Metal Masher? Oct. 13, 2013

Oct 13, 2013

Rick and Dawn have moved from thier camp site to camp with us for the remainer of the weekend. The guys are trying to find the problem with the power steering on our razor, but cannot find it.

Oh well, we are not going to let this stop us from going out and doing the Metal Masher trail. We have now riden for 5 straight days. Some of us are feeling a bit woren out. Russ and Jodee decide not to ride today, so it is  us and Rick and Dawn. We all agree that we should go do the Metal Masher trail.

We are off for a day of good riding. We are headed to Metal Masher.....but wait lets try Gold Bar Rim first.

The trail is rocky (what we like best) and it is a beautiful day.

Around this corner we find this ....

It is about a 6-7 foot drop off...Well should we go or should we turn around....Only one machine has a wench.

After about a 15 minute discussion, not knowing what else we might find, and deciding we don't enough people to help us get back up this, we decided to turn around.  All of the trail guides (books) we had with us just stated few machines go all the way and that there are 2 or 3 areas like this one. Oh we will be back to do this one day.

Off to find Metal Masher

We find the trail head. The signs state it is a 22 mile ride.

I love these signs.

We have heard a lot of people say this is a metal mashing trail, but so far it is an easy ride. But after about a mile down the road we start into the ROCK CLIMBING.

This is one of those areas ( and I cannot remember the name it is called) where you have two choices. Go up and over or go around. It is always fun to watch others try this first.

We decide to go around.

We are camped down there. I thought we were much further away from camp.

This trail took us about 4 hours. It was a slow rock crawling trail but so much fun.

We still  have plenty of daylight and just could not see wasting it at camp. Time to find a another trail.

This trail is along the pole line. It is a box canyon but worth going on.

It has been a good day and lots of fun riding with Rick and Dawn. Now it is time to head to camp, have dinner and sit around the fire.
