We are off to Moab. Cannot wait to get there. It is a five to six hour drive for us, depending on the weather. The plan is to meet with our friends, Russ and Jodee, who are coming from Mesa Verde, CO. We all should be there around 3:30-4:00 pm.
When we arrived in Moab, we noticed all of the RV parks were full. Now remember we are in the beginnings of the Government shut down. We knew that all of the BLM campgrounds would be closed, however we are traveling on a Tuesday. We head off to Sand Flats Recreational area, yes this is a BLM park, but it is managed by Grand County, so this area is open. Yeah....we know all of the BLM campgrounds are closed and it is a Tuesday, we did not think we would have a hugh problem finding a couple of campsites. We were wrong!! We got to Sand Flats about 4:30 pm and the gate station was closed, so we took the camping site permit and off we went to find a campsite. Well......we drove into the first area, no sites open. Then off to the second area, again, no site available. This went on at each camping area. On our way out we stopped at Campground A,which we should have done to begin with, and yes...there were two open sites. And they were even close to each other. Quick, park this motor home.
Long day of traveling for all of us. Dinner, cocktail and off to bed.
