Not home for long...off to Overton, NV

Back from San Rafael Swell to start getting the house ready for winter and everything else to do some serious traveling. Got 24 pints of peaches bottled, 20 pints of Salas, 2 batches of corn, green beans, and Mexican style tomatoes done.

Five days at home and DH says we are leaving tomorrow. Where are we going I ask, SOUTH is the only answer I get. So within 24 hours I have the motor home packed and ready to go.

South....first stop is at Little Sahara Sand Dunes.

A nice place to camp while at Little Sahara Sand Dunes. Just close enough to the dunes, but far enough away so you don't have to listen to all of the machines go and down Sand Mountain all day and all night. It also was water,  which is good when your DH forgets to fill the fresh water tank before leaving.

It had rained a lot the last few days so the sand was soft. Took the trails around the dunes instead of the dunes.

A great ride. It is amazing to see the landscape around the dunes.

Wow, what a night......omg..... the wind never stopped. It was so bad that we had to pull in one of the slides on the motor home. Didn't get much sleep that night.

Next morning we decided to take a ride but with the wind from last night and soft sand, the dunes had very tall razor edges.  Not something I like to ride.

This place is usually very busy with ATVs, bikes and UTVs, but it was extremely quite this trip. Almost, well, a little erie.  We only saw a couple of other rides the two days were there.

Well it was time to pack up and move with the sun. But we had wind from hell. We decided to go as far as Hurricane, which is only about 3 hours away. Well it took us 5 hours. Poor DH had to fight wind, side wind, head wind, side wind, gust up to 50 plus miles an hour for that five hours.

We were really happy to get to Hurricane. Found a great RV park, Willow Wind. I would highly recommend this place. Price was not to bad, $36.00 for the night and very CLEAN. It is located at the south end of town, but close enough to walk to restaurants, and stores. Easy in and easy out.

The next day our son and his wife stopped on their way back home and visited with for a while. Once they left so did we. Off to Sand Hollow State Park.

After a 30 minute drive, I know why didn't we just go there last night, well.........it is nothing but sand and we did not want to get sand blasted with all the winds.

Next morning it was time to go for a ride.It was sunny and warm.  Sand Hollow has a lot to offer, a nice lake to boat on. Fishing is suppose to be good too. We don't fish. And great trails.

Great riding today. Ending with great sunset.

Next morning we are off to Overton, NV.  It is about an hour drive and someplace we have always want to go to and ride.

We decided to stay at the Fun in the Sun RV park and it was a great choice. A very well maintained RV park and the cost per night was great $22.00.   It is located on the north end of town just as you are coming into downtown Overton.

I loved the flowing plants next to the motor home

Arrived later morning and really not sure how to get to the trails ( a GOOD MAP) is a must. We did have a map from the camp host and some directions from friends who had ridden here. So off we went.

We found Overton Wash

The area is beautiful, we just could not find the trail out of this area. So we headed back to camp. While sitting out in the sun, which by the way was great we were greeted by the camp bandit.

The first picture of this little guy is about 3 feet from DH's chair. He just kept coming closer and closer. He had no fear of us. He visited everyday we were there. There were three or four of these little ones all over the camp. I tried to feed him lettuce and he turned it down. Got to learn what they like to eat.

While sitting in the sun and watching this little one a gentleman by the name of Preacher stopped by. He lives in the RV park. Part of the RV park is full timers. He stated he noticed we were new and that we had a Polaris razor and wanted to know if we would like to go ride with him tomorrow once he got back from church. We were delighted to have someone from the area show us all of the trails. So the answer was a definite yes.

Next day around 1pm Preacher was at our motor home. We had packed a lunch as he had told us the night before we would be out for 4 to 6 hours.  Our kind of riding. We first stopped to pick up a friend of Preachers who was going to go ride with us, seeing Preachers wife was unable to go. She had just had some surgery.  And off we went.

First area was the Overton Wash area.

Could not believe all of the colors in these mountains. Looks like an ice cream Sunday

I have never seen such large barrel cactus.  But then I do live in the mountains.

The last time (yesterday) we rode through this area and could not find the right trail. It helps to have someone who knows the area.

Out guides for the day....Parry and Preacher

The secerny  was amazing.  I have seen so much of the desert this year and am still amazed at all of beauty it holds.

Preacher took us to Red Rock Canyon.... This is an OMG moment....It is the back side of Valley of Fire.   I could not believe how red the rocks were.

Just around the corner from this area we found these

They just stood and watched us as we watched them.  I have never seen these in the wild before, so for me it was real treat.

Now on to more great scenery

On the way back we found this little guy

A view of Overton from top of the ridge

We not only had a lot of great rock formations we also had to go through the jungle

Coming down a steep hill and just around the corner we found this

I wish I knew what the name of this plant is

Another great day for riding. Thanks Preacher and Parry.

It is always great when those from the area want to show you the best trails.

Now it is time to go home and finish getting the house ready. Got to turn off the sprinklers, set up the bills (to pay online.....I know I am behind times.).  But it has been a great 9 days.
